What do you like to do for fun? Hobbies, weekend activities, etc.
I love going out to vegan/vegan-friendly restaurants with my girlfriend, watching our shows, and just relaxing in the sun!
How did you find out about Bread SRSLY?
My aunt (also gluten-free) brought Bread SRSLY dinner rolls to a family brunch. I couldn't believe her when she said they were gluten-free because I had yet to find gluten-free sourdough that really had a sourdough taste. I kept eating them all brunch!
What's your favorite Bread SRSLY product?
The classic sourdough loaf because it's so versatile- toast, croutons, stuffing, French toast, sandwiches, etc!
What are your go-to toast toppings?
Avocado, EVOO, Maldon salt
or a classic- Beans on Toast
What led you to adopt a gluten-free lifestyle? How long have you been gluten-free?
I became gluten-free in 2020 after having years of health issues: feeling bloated and unwell, constantly getting sick, and feeling tired after meals. Even though I'm not Celiac, I realized I'm very sensitive to gluten and I've noticed a huge difference in my energy levels, digestive system, and overall well-being since I became gluten-free.
What was the biggest challenge you faced when you first transitioned to being gluten-free?
Finding carbs that are quick and easy (as opposed to ones like rice/quinoa/potatoes/pasta that you have to cook)
What are some of your favorite gluten-free restaurants/cafes?
Askatu Bakery in Seattle (they ship)! Nece's GF in Monterey, Mariposa in Oakland, and Life is Sweet in Danville (all bakeries!). I love shopping at Rainbow Grocery in SF (so many GF options!)
What are your go-to gluten-free pantry staples? Please feel free to name drop brands here!
Jovial brown rice pasta, polenta, Lotus Foods Rice Ramen Noodles, arborio rice for risotto/paella, Way to Life cocoa granola, Kettle salt & vinegar chips, Banchan's gluten-free Japanese BBQ Sauce, Dr. Bragg's Liquid Soy Aminos
What’s your favorite quick and easy gluten-free meal?
Instant Pot miso risotto with stir fried zucchini and tofu
What's the most annoying gluten-free myth you've heard?
Being gluten-free means not eating carbs! I <3 carbs
Dream gluten-free product?
Vegan croissants or conchas
How do you deal with accidental gluten/allergen exposure?
Drinking water, taking Benadryl as needed, sleeping
What advice would you give to someone just starting their gluten-free journey?
Make 1:1 swaps- change out wheat pasta for rice pasta, wheat bread for GF bread- it'll feel like a more seamless, effortless transition!
Any exciting things (projects, travel, etc) you're looking forward to this year?
Becoming a full-time San Francisco resident and continuing to explore the city's restaurant scene!
