Meet Bread SRSLY Ambassador Caitlin!

Tell us about yourself!

Hi! My name is Caitlin (she/her), and I am currently living on the east coast of Florida in a cozy beach side cottage. I am 24 years old and about 2 years ago, I made the decision to move to Florida and change my career path. I am passionate about creating holistic health and wellness content on social media, and in my free time I enjoy reading, spending time in nature, cooking plant-based meals, and riding my bike.

What does wellness mean to you personally?

To me, wellness means having the freedom to move through daily life without being weighed down by chronic symptoms or health conditions. I have struggled with my own share of health challenges in the past, which led me to completely change my lifestyle and diet.

What does your morning routine look like?

I love my morning routine! My mornings start with my trusty go-to routine of making lemon water, and then making fresh celery juice. While I am drinking my morning beverages, I will do a short gratitude journaling practice. I will make a smoothie to drink at my desk at my current job, pack my snacks in my lunch box, and then ride my bike to work.

What's your coffee/tea order?

I do not drink coffee, but I sure do drink tea! I am a big fan of caffeine-free herbal teas. I love a simple iced or hot herbal tea.

What do you do for work?

I am currently working in local government. I work in the Parks & Recreation department (yes, like the show Parks & Rec). I work for the small beach town that I live in, and I really enjoy my 5 minute bike ride commute to work. I am passionate about entrepreneurship and have my own social media marketing and consulting company, and help small businesses near me level up their social media platforms. I also create holistic health and wellness content on social media, and have very recently started to monetize my content and work with brands that align with my core values. It is my dream and my plan for the future to be able to become fully self-employed.

What do you like to do for fun? Hobbies, weekend activities, etc.

I am a big nature girl. I love swimming in the ocean, going on birding expeditions with my aunt, riding my bike, and playing pickleball. I like to read, clean my tiny beach side cottage, journal, and cook delicious plant-based meals.

On the weekends, I love planning and editing content for my social media. I also have a large family here in Florida, so I enjoy spending time with my family on the weekends.

How did you find out about Bread SRSLY?

My Mom introduced me to Bread SRSLY! I have been gluten free and vegan for many years, so it was exciting when she discovered Bread SRSLY.

What's your favorite Bread SRSLY product?

My favorite Bread SRSLY product is the Cinnamon Raisin Gluten-Free Sourdough- absolutely so delicious.

What are your go-to toast toppings?

I am a big fan of strawberry jam, honey, and occasionally hummus.

What led you to adopt a gluten-free lifestyle? How long have you been gluten-free?

When I was 14 years old, I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease, and went on a mission to help minimize my symptoms. I had a food allergy test done around this time, and the test showed me that I had a sensitivity to gluten. I have been gluten free for over 10 years!

What was the biggest challenge you faced when you first transitioned to being gluten-free?

When I first transitioned to being gluten-free, I struggled with finding good gluten-free substitutes for products I used often. 10 years ago there were not nearly as many gluten free options as there are now!

What are some of your favorite gluten-free restaurants/cafes?

My current go-to has been a new restaurant called Coastal Vegan Grill - they have so many vegan and gluten free options. I am also such a fan of True Food Kitchen, Christopher’s Kitchen, and The Health Bar.

What are your go-to gluten-free pantry staples? Please feel free to name drop brands here!

Some of my fav go-to gluten-free pantry staples are organic brown rice noodles (from the brands Jovial and Tinkyada), chips and tortillas from Siete, dates from Joolies, Lara bars, and the occasional snack from a brand called Unreal.

What’s your favorite quick and easy gluten-free meal?

My favorite quick and easy gluten-free meal is roasted potatoes, roasted onions, roasted carrots with a little bit of avocado oil, seasoned with salt, pepper, and rosemary.

What's the most annoying gluten-free myth you've heard?

That eating gluten would be ‘ok’ because I technically do not have an allergy.

Dream gluten-free product?

A jumbo gluten free (& vegan) fluffy cinnamon roll for sure.

How do you deal with accidental gluten/allergen exposure?

I will hydrate with lemon water and consume something with ginger in it to soothe my stomach. I give myself full permission to rest and allow myself to lay down and wait until the pain and discomfort passes.

What advice would you give to someone just starting their gluten-free journey?

I would tell them to not be discouraged because many restaurants, grocery stores, and new companies have many options that support a gluten-free lifestyle, and that there is a very wide variety of yummy and gluten-free foods out there!

Any exciting things (projects, travel, etc) you're looking forward to this year?

I am looking forward to continuing to create short form videos on my social media this year. It is rewarding to see my social media platforms growing, and I am excited to keep on posting. Additionally, I am looking forward to traveling back home to Washington, D.C. to visit my parents and 3 little sisters in August.

Thanks Caitlin! We're so excited to have you as a Bread SRSLY Ambassador. For more from Caitlin, be sure to give her a follow at @holisticaitlin on Instagram!
