If you’re craving pizza but missing the crust, these gluten free pizza sandwiches will do the trick! Made with Bread SRSLY’s gluten free sourdough bread, melty cheese, and salty, spicy ingredients, there’s no pizza craving this sandwich can’t solve.

A pizza sandwich is much easier to make than a pizza from scratch. It's no dough and little mess. Made similar to grilled cheese, you’ll just need a skillet , olive oil, and spatula. 

Make These Sandwiches Gluten Free

Whether you’re gluten free or not this recipe works. Gluten free bread is better when toasted anyway because it makes it less crumbly and more structurally integrable. However, you’ll want a high quality gluten-free bread. 

Bread SRSLY’s Classic or XL Gluten-Free Sourdough Loaves are perfect for this pizza sandwich recipe because the fermentation creates a more tangy, flavorful bread. This bread also maintains its structure without crumbling. If you’re using our XL or pullman loaf, it will be easy to create large slices of bread, and if you’re using our Classic loaf, make sure to cut iton the diagonal to create that larger slice. 

Simple Ingredients

Pizza is made with simple ingredients, and so are these sandwiches! You’ll just need mozzarella cheese, pizza sauce (or pasta sauce), parmesan and basil. 

Mozzarella is the cheese that creates that beautiful cheese pull, while parmesan adds extra depth and saltiness. 

Elevate this recipe by adding freshly minced garlic, red pepper flakes, and basil. These aren’t necessary, but these make it more tasty.

Instead of butter, we recommend extra virgin olive oil to coat the pan. Olive oil has a nuttier, more citrusy taste than butter and adds to that italian flavor profile we’re aiming for.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 4 tbsp pizza sauce
  • 4 slices Bread SRSLY Classic Sourdough, cut diagonally
  • 1/3 cup shredded mozzarella
  • 2 tbsp parmesan cheese
  • Pinch red chili flakes
  • 4 leaves fresh basil, chopped

 

DIRECTIONS

  1. Heat oil in a pan over medium low heat.
  2. Combine garlic and pizza sauce in a small bowl. Spread onto each slice of Bread SRSLY Classic Sourdough.
  3. Add two slices of bread to the pan. Top with mozzarella, parmesan, and chili flakes, cooking for 6-8 minutes, or until the cheese begins to melt. Top with basil.
  4. Top with the other slices of bread and flip.
  5. Cook for an additional 5-6 minutes or until golden.
  6. Enjoy!
