Easy Hot Chocolate French Toast (Gluten-Free)
It's easy to forget how delicious French toast is until you randomly decide to make it when the mood strikes. This Hot Chocolate French Toast is a scrumptious blend of two holiday favorites and the perfect way to use the marshmallows you've stowed away in your pantry.
This recipe uses a gluten-free sourdough from Bread SRSLY which is made with real, wholesome ingredients. Indulge your sweet tooth while keeping your gut feeling great with gluten-free sourdough. Especially during the holidays, any chance to swap for a better-for-you ingredient that is easier to digest is a chance to feel good by the beginning of the new year.

If you want to top with chopped fruit, bananas and strawberries go beautifully with chocolate.

INGREDIENTS
- 1 egg
- 1/3 cup milk of your choice
- 1 tbsp cacao powder
- 6 slices from a Bread SRSLY Gluten-Free Sourdough Pullman Loaf
- 1 to 2 tbsps butter or coconut oil (for cooking)
- Heavy whipping cream (or if you don't want to make your own, used store-bought whipped cream)
- Maple syrup
Homemade Marshmallows:
Use your store-bought version or try making your own!
- 1 & 1/3 cups water
- 1/4 cup gelatin
- 2/3 cup maple syrup

DIRECTIONS
- Add the egg, milk and cacao powder to a shallow bowl and mix well.
- Heat a pan over medium heat and add 1 tbsp of butter or coconut oil.
- While the pan heats, start coating your bread by adding each piece, one at a time, to the egg mixture. Flip to coat both sides, shake off any excess, and transfer to the heated pan (I did this 2 pieces at a time).
- Cook until golden, 2 to 4 minutes per side, then remove and set aside while you coat and cook the rest of the pieces.
- To make the homemade whipped cream, beat heavy whipping cream and a dash of maple syrup until stiff peaks form.
- Top with whipped cream, marshmallows and maple syrup.
