Bread SRSLY's Commitment to Food and Allergen Safety

At Bread SRSLY, we prioritize food and allergen safety so you can enjoy our products with confidence.

From listening to and serving our community for years, we’ve heard firsthand from so many of you how eating with strict allergies and dietary restrictions can cause feelings of fear, frustration, and anxiety around mealtime. A lack of transparency around ingredient labeling, shared production lines, and hidden sources of gluten are major stressors when looking for safe food.

Beyond these fears and anxieties though, food also has the power to bring us joy, comfort, and nourishment. And that’s what we aim to create for all eaters.

Our mission is to reunite people with sourdough when they thought good bread was off the table. We strive to make food safe and more inclusive so you can eat with assurance and delight.

We do our best to label ingredient and allergen information across our website, and we’ve also carved out this space to answer some commonly asked questions brought to us by our community, as well as some insight into our production processes.

All Bread SRSLY products are free of the Top 9 Allergens. To view our full ingredient list for each product, please click here

What are the Top 9 Allergens?

Wheat, egg, dairy, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, fish, shellfish and sesame are the top 9 allergens that account for around 90 percent of food allergy reactions for Americans (Washington Post).

How does Bread SRSLY handle allergens?

Bread SRSLY maintains a strictly Top 9 allergen-free kitchen. Our Top 9 Allergen-Free and GFCO Certified Gluten-Free Kitchen is dedicated solely to manufacturing Bread SRSLY gluten-free sourdough, so there are no shared lines with allergen-containing products.

Ingredient and supplier vetting is another key part of how we practice allergen management.  Our ingredients are reviewed for the risk of allergens and cross-contact, and our suppliers are reviewed for their allergen control practices. Our team conducts gluten testing weekly at a 5 ppm threshold (note, this is below the GFCO threshold of 10 ppm, and the FDA threshold of 20 ppm) and are looking forward to validating our allergen management practices through routine testing our products for the remaining Top 9 allergens in the future.

We also thoroughly invest in training and continuous education so each of our production staff members understands why our allergen safety protocols are so important for our customers' well-being.

Our production staff follow Good Manufacturing Practices, which include sanitation and hygiene, and they, in addition to our Customer Care Team, also undergo Food Safety Training and complete an Gluten Awareness course.

Our on-site staff break room is separate from the production floor, and no outside food or drink is present or consumed on the production floor.

Do you consider other potential allergens that aren’t in the Top 9?

We aim to be as inclusive as possible with our product offerings, and do our best to create products that can also nourish those of us with lesser known allergies and food sensitivities.

In addition to being free of the Top 9 Allergens, all of our products are refined sugar-free, potato-free, tapioca-free, and chickpea-free! Our products are also free from mustard, celery, sulfites, lupin and mollusks. Our Sourdough Sandwich Rolls and Cinnamon Raisin Sourdough are gum-free and rice-free.

While there aren’t corn proteins in the final product, some people with corn sensitivities choose to avoid our products made with xanthan gum.

Sunflower Allergy Statement: There is cross-contact of sunflower and poppy seeds from our Seeded Sourdough with our other products, as we use shared equipment. If you are allergic to sunflower in any form, or poppy seeds, we recommend not consuming our products.

How can I be sure Bread SRSLY products are safe for me to eat?

We highly recommend sharing our Product & Ingredient Info page with your healthcare provider for their review if you’re unsure about consuming our products. While our team is unable to provide recommendations based on your specific allergies or personal health, we are always willing to answer questions you or your healthcare provider may have. We’re here for you!

As we grow our small business, we prioritize our community and your feedback. If you’re currently unable to enjoy our products due to an allergy or sensitivity, or if you have a question we haven’t answered here, we’d love to hear from you! Send us a message at hello@breadsrsly.com.
